BORN ON THIS DAY the 8th day of July 2009 is the long-awaited spinoff to doomed political and social exchange e-nation the Republic of Titulia - Akarina®: The New Republic™ comes to life in what has been an emotional day with the project reaching 'live' status.

The first Akarinan ("A-ka-ree-nun") - the project's brainchild T. J. Norton has hailed the launch of the new virtual country a 'success and a curse'.

"This project came about after a lot of consultation, a lot of late nights, a lot of heartache in the social calendar and quite a few cigarettes", Norton said.

Patented by Norton's real-life company the Nortilus Group, LLC., it is expected that Akarina will attract a citizenry focused on the work ahead.

"The problem with Titulia had nothing to do with the Administrators nor the site itself", Norton said.

"What we're talking about is something a lot more fundamental. Titulia focused on the internal politic of reaching acclaim before time. Had this occurred later on down the track where a then-established nation could boast the establishment to manage the in-fighting it would have survived".

Akarina's story takes over from where Titulia left off. The citizens - in a time of great turmoil - launch a civil war and the few remaining not engulfed by the war's casualty count managed to seek refuge on the TSS Brewster - a boat named after Titulia's first president.

Before they leave, the hopefuls find the Administrator's diary which depicts a location of a far-away land named 'Anechaareen' which when translated from the ancient text comes 'Akarina'.

Norton describes the website's deployment as 'four phased'.

"First - the roll out of the basic infrastructure. Citizen profiles, introductions and discussion forums. In these profiles contain a list of special skills which will be utilised to fulfil a certain task .. say .. graphic design. Foundation citizens will be rewarded with land in the nation's GUI navigator map".

"Phase II will be rolled out following this which will include the establishment of Government whereby it will remain strictly non-partisan at first. The key focus will be working together to build a structure. The Administrators will appoint a Citizens' round-table based on the hardest working citizens with the most proactive ideas".

"Phase III - following the successful establishment of a Republic system of Government and the sense of the rule of law - the building of schools, businesses, recreational facilities and national infrastructure such as TV and radio, parks, water and nature reserves - this has all been planned ahead".

"The last phase - Phase IV - will complete what we call the 'establishment' phase whereby once the nation is fully constructed, political party establishment tools will be allowed. The transition from a Citizens' roundtable to a new three-branch Government will be conducted and the nation's first president and those to come will be equipped with the tools and support they need to effectively and lawfully govern", Norton concluded.

Last night Z100 contributing editor Zach Hollemeier reviewed Akarina's establishment and gave it a '7 out of 10'.

"This brings it together in a neat way", Mr Hollemeier said.

"A simpler version of World of Warcraft (WOW) crossed with the simplicity of Second Life with a 'SIMS-like' ease of navigation".

Out of the box for Mr Hollemeier was the quality of the custom-built GUI navigator interface.

"I am very impressed by their [Akarina's] navigator. It's easy to use and I was blown away at the high level of graphics as the website uses older scripting language and it didn't lag like some sites packing in this kind of technology".

Akarina creator T. J. Norton officially emigrated from the Republic of Titulia at 10:30 pm AEST last night (7th July 2009) and left with staunch criticism of the establishment.

"Titulia has gone to the bottom of the ocean. The Government is barely functional, officials are trying to suppress innovation with vague threats and it has taken a toll on the activity with barely half of citizens signing in since last month - a record low", Norton said.

Norton praised the work of the Barzika Corporation - the team behind the Republic of Titulia - citing Karl Kantor as a 'gentleman of great esteem'.

"Karl [Kantor] has put up with so much and certainly no where near what should be tolerated. He is a gentleman that I hold a great deal of respect for and I wish him well with other Barzika projects after Titulia falls. May he and all the administrators know how much I appreciated their work for the nation's future and despite the pitiful attempts made by the jealous elite to lay it on theirshoulders - know that they did everything possible".

"Titulia has taught us a lot for what we should and shouldn't do in terms of direction and will no doubt be a hallmark for virtual nations to follow. I thank them and wish them well", Norton concluded.

Fellow Titulian and partner TMG CEO Erina Jensen has not ruled out her emigration for Akarina, but has committed to staying on to see if Titulia can be salvaged.

"You have to respect TJ he has done a lot for the republic and sailed through a lot of nonsense", she said.

"I won't say 'never' to anything - the future can have many twists and turns. But I'm keen to see what difference I can possibly make to Titulia's future and see if it can be saved in the next administration".

Ms Jensen was cynical of a short-term solution to the national crisis targeting the genuine citizens, with politically motivated law suits and criminal prosecution threatened against former President Dennis McVicker, Libertarian elder Karl Christen, former Titulian T. J. Norton and ex-SDP presidential candidate and leader Matthew Ingebritson.

"This government - fuelled by the underhanded efforts of the Linardist Party, a partisan-driven law firm, a pompous Attorney-General and a General Court with no firm structure, guarantees that nothing short of war and strife will continue under the current government", Ms Jensen said.

"First thing's first - the Attorney-General and the Court need to be dismissed and the process of creating the position descriptions and assignment of powers started over. Such a process needs to be continually overseen by the citizens".

Ms Jensen has not ruled out a future presidential run, hoping to succeed Mary Brewster as the second female president of the republic of Titulia.

"As I said earlier I will never say never. But I am keen to see what I can do to help bring more happiness to Titulia and less animosity. I have never nor will I ever use my sex to further my own causes - but it would be nice to have a woman's touch in this fledgling nation".

This much is certain - things will never be the same again. We will keep you informed on developments right here at the Herald.
