Story by BAILEY MOREVILLE
GUEST WRITER
FOLLOWING the failed re-election bid of President Luxis Avaram (R), RNC Chairman T. J. Norton has undertaken a 'review and restructure' effort calling for party 'renewal'. Chairman Norton advised that the former President indicated his intention to stay on as party leader, but since withdrew following consultation with Deputy Chairman-designate Karl Christen.
The restructure saw the Chairman resign as Capitalist Branch President to make way for the Deputy Chairman to contest the election. Mr Norton has since returned to his home-base GOP Branch to regain the branch leadership he once held. As the former branch and party president, Mr Norton led the transformation of the Republican Party from a non-contender into an effectual political opposition to the dominant Libertarian Party.
Responding to this article, Mr Norton advised that it was 'good practice' for the party to renew.
"I look forward to again standing for the branch I love and the members I feel so impassioned to protect. As a former party leader and Chairman, I am confident in my proven ability to serve the GOP Branch and its interests", Mr Norton said.
"I congratulate my branch colleagues JI, Bandi and Julian for stepping up to the plate and I look forward to the branch presidential debate period".
In the Capitalist Branch, former Vice President and Deputy Chairman Karl Christen is the sole contender as at the time of writing this article. It would be an easy win for the former Vice President due to low member activity since the departure of branch founder CerussoMan.
A REPUBLICAN source has made the serious allegation that outgoing leader and former President of the Republic Luxis Avaram has 'handed' the GOP branch leadership to former Foreign Minister Julian despite the necessity to complete a party ballot for the position.
"Karl [Christen] has been told. TJ [Norton] has been told. There's no point running if Luxis [Avaram] is handing Julian the torch. It really sucks and is unfair", said the source on the condition of anonymity.
Mr Norton declined to comment on the allegation and said that he welcomes the president to support whoever he pleases.
"Let me be clear - President Avaram has led the branch and the party with nothing less than steadfast leadership and a profound honour that few Titulian figures could ever aspire to. If the outgoing leader wants to give preference for any candidate that's their right as a party member to do so", Mr Norton said.
However the party chairman fell short of allowing foul play within Republican ranks.
"As a nominee for the branch leadership I obviously have an interest - I don't hide that nor is it sensible to even attempt to deny the apparent", he said.
"But I have an obligation as Party Chairman to ensure that a fair and free election is permitted and that all candidates - JI, Bandi, Julian, myself AND whoever else cares to stand prior to nomination's close - receive the same rights and privileges as any member would and the playing field is even from the get-go".
"If there has been any such 'deal' as the supposed source puts it then the members have a right to know what was discussed, who discussed it and what - if any - agreement of support was made".
Mr Norton concluded he was unaware who the source could have been, but said he was not concerned.
"This is what 'being Republican' is about at its most purest and basic form - enjoying and celebrating real freedom and liberty in all its forms", Mr Norton said.
"Whether I did something wrong or any citizen did something they're embarrassed by - the Republican Party - unlike others - values and respects every member's right to talk to the press whether I or individual members agree with it or not. Those are the core values one celebrates in a true democracy".
The Herald will be covering this story throughout the Republican nomination and election period and welcomes candidates from all participating branches to send us a request for interview to tituliaherald@nortilus.com
