CHARGED WITH LEADING the President's key election commitment of immigration, Minister Mac McDonald resigned his office in the McVicker administration and left the Republic. In his blog dated 29th May, McDonald cited "real life workload" as the reason behind his departure.

"As my real life workload increases, I find that time spent here is increasingly at the expense of my loved ones", Mr McDonald said in his blog.

Reading on from the unexpected announcement, Mr McDonald presented mixed messages as to why he appeared disenchanted with the success of the immigration plan.

"Until the Admin makes such investment, and take some financial risks, I do not see the current trend improving", he said.

The Administrator of the Republic is the site developer and operator. Under the Constitution and successive concessions, anything that does not have development or coding implications is the direct responsibility of the citizens, through their elected president.

Commenting further in the article he said, "whilst immigration is currently a serious issue, I feel that keeping new arrivals should be given equal importance", which shifts the liability from the administrator to the people.

Towards the end of his press release, McDonald hit out at less pro-active citizens.

"The site's users also have great responsibility in making things work rather than simply focusing on playing out school boy fantasies. Perhaps, that's why of the very few active users, there are barely any active female participants .. I regularly log-in to Facebook, and cannot recall asking myself 'why am I here?' Why? There are different interesting things to do".

Mac McDonald quickly rose to the esteem of his peers in the Libertarian Party and the Republic itself as former President Alex Pijanowski's Chief of Staff. Following the victory of former President Luxis Avaram over Pijanowski, McDonald was viewed by many across the philosophical spectrum as a likely frontrunner for the Libertarian leadership and even a future President of the Republic.

McDonald was a serious contender in the race for the Libertarian leadership against Dennis McVicker prior to accusations from current nominee for Chairman Joshua Neace that McDonald was a "racist". Neace never presented any substantial evidence to support his claims but the public damage was done - and McDonald withdrew his name from nomination for party president.

Party members and everyday citizens alike viewed these comments as responsible for the withdrawal of the only challenge to McVicker. Libs have remained silent on this issue ever since despite Neace continuing to have the support of the president.

Praise extended across the aisle from Republican Chairman T. J. Norton who referred to Mac a 'conscientious statesman'.

"I worked closely with Mac when we were members of the Pijanowski administration. He was a devoted and conscientious statesman and a conciliator among friends and enemies alike. I know he will be deeply missed and hope he reconsiders his decision. In the event he doesn't I wish him all the best in everything he does", Norton said.

Considering the enormity of McDonald's departure, it is expected that President Dennis McVicker will make a public statement by the end of tomorrow. With immigration a key election issue hanging in the balance - who will the President choose?
