Meet this Elections Key Players

DECISION SEPTEMBER: "THE CAMPAIGN ASSETS"

THIS IS the first of a series that shines the spotlight on the September 2009 Titulian Presidential Elections.

This edition we concentrate on the human assets to the campaign effort to become the next tenants of Liberty House for the month to come. The Herald will also look at what that will mean to the nominees' success in the race and who are Titulia's most credible servants in each area of Government.

For newer citizens, we'll also provide a brief Titulian biography of the prospective contenders.

1. DENNIS McVICKER
As of reporting the McVicker campaign has been the only fully declared ticket for President and Vice President of the Republic. A spokesperson for the campaign has hinted that the majority of cabinet and sub-cabinet officials are "close to completion" in selecting the best people for the different areas of the next administration.

Former President Dennis McVicker is well known as the fifth chief executive of the republic and the most popular citizen by site opinion statistics. With shifts in alliances and gaining greater support this time around, dissenters are throwing elbows fearing his return to the presidency will place them at a significant strategic disadvantage.

What solidifies McVicker's campaign that is already geared up for the official start of the election in a little under two days is the presence of maverick Titulian statesman T. J. Norton on the ticket as his running mate.

2. TOM J. "T. J." NORTON
Former Social Inclusion Minister T. J. Norton is no stranger to politics or the seasoned blitz of campaigning. A real-life politico with over 12 years of governmental and political experience, Norton graces the stage as Vice Presidential running mate to the ticket of former President Dennis McVicker..

This is not the first time Norton has taken the stage in a political contest. He was a contender for the presidency in the first election of 'non-original' citizens in February this year as Republican Leader and Nominee for President. A fluctuation tie for first and second place with Whig stalwart Peter Crowe alarmed the moderate voters.

Heeding calls to prevent a radioactive Whig agenda storming through the republic, Norton strategised a perfect 'Hail Mary' play to place President Eric Meissner into office, come run-off balloting with a majority to Meissner of 20 votes - the greatest electoral majority since before the arrival of The Teacher.

Since the historic February election, Norton has held several roles in the Titulian political establishment. He was Minister for Social Inclusion and a key cabinet advisor to then-President Alex Pijanowski.
Following departure from the administration in protest over the undemocratic court establishment by his then-fellow cabinet member Dr Manhaton, Norton again become a senior member of the Republican Party under President Luxis Avaram and Leader Karl Christen.

Fearing the destabilisation of the republic with threats of prosecution when questioning the policy of former Attorney General Germanicus Nero, Norton saw the writing on the wall for democracy in Titulia under Whig President Jason 'Trvthseeker' Ragan - and emigrated when the then-president continually ignored the plight of the Titulian people.

Seven months on, Norton joined his former February presidential combatant in the leadership of the Social Democratic Party.
Sources to two other prospective campaigns have reportedly considered Norton previously as a possible presidential nominee.
Recently, Linardist Party member Gregory Hock had even suggested that Norton should run, despite later hypocrisy in attacking him and his partner - former Teacher administration official Erina Jensen.

3. JOHN DALY

Anticipated as the Linardist Party's standard bearer this election, John Daly arrives at the presidential starting gate with a mixed bag of political experience much like his lead opponents. The architect of the Pijanowski and Avaram economic plans, Daly's success has mixed reactions within the citizenry.

In recalling the election battle between then-incumbent President Pijanowski and his successor Luxis Avaram, a fellow citizen has told the Herald that Daly's continuation in the Avaram administration was an "odd pick".

"[Luxis] Avaram's key election edge against Alex [Pijanowski] was the debate over the economy and how his [Avaram's] and Alex's economic agenda was significantly different", the citizen recalls..

"If you're saying that your approach is better and considering that John [Daly] was in charge of the agenda that was criticised, why would he [Avaram] then pick the same guy to be the head of his administration's economic football?"

As history tells, the Daly-initiated Avaram budget was watered-down significantly to win over support and achieve passage. During his time as a citizen, Daly has had limited success in winning over moderates and virtually no success in selling his message to liberal citizens.

This could be fairly attributed from being predominantly aligned with the far right-wing during his citizenship and previous controversial statements made over the issue of gay marriage.

His candidacy comes as a surprise, particularly when Daly himself has said that he never have any interest in running for President until this time.
