EDITORIAL: The Voting Begins

NEWCOMER The Teacher of the Republican Party and Owen Merry of the United Independents have only a few votes separating them as we go into the second day of voting. In a welcomed change of pace, the two presidential contenders have sparred with honour in an election not seen since the days of infamous Norton/Meissner/Crowe presidential contest in February.
With a 25-18 vote favouring the liberal conservative candidate, it now seems to be a minor battle of words between the parties. After having scored the electorate in the streets selling their campaign messages, both nominees are vying for the magic 50.1% required to become the 7th president of the Republic of Titulia.
THE WORD ON THE STREET
It's been a tumultuous past few weeks for the fledging nation as Titulia was engulfed in a tirade of law suits, citizen infighting, claims of corruption and jostling for the hot seat. The controversial Ragan-led administration was plagued by tyrannical Attorney General Germanicus Nero and volumes of scripted accusations against former presidents, leading figures, media magnates and even everyday citizens.
When reading through various conversation threads and citizen-posted emails by the now emigrated former AG, Nero made a number of vague of even direct threats of prosecutorial action towards prominent citizens that so much as queried some of his executive decisions.
With the president ignoring the plight of the citizens, Ragan adopted the position of laying the blame on former president Dennis McVicker and former Republican Chairman T. J. Norton for his failure to address the serious issues eating at the government's credibility in the public eye.
Un-swayed by the various calls for action, the president stood idly by as Mr Norton emigrated the republic and the Attorney General continuing to wreak havoc over the republic. The July election was called early due to the resignation of President Jason 'Trvthseeker' Ragan who has now officially emigrated from the republic.
In what seemed to have been an easily concluded contest only a few days ago, former president Dennis McVicker of the Libertarian Party withdrew from the new race in favour of defecting Republican leader Karl Christen - only to face a deadline upset in the nomination period.
A NEW ERA IS DAWNING IN TITULIA
From going through the various sections of the nation's website it's easy to conclude the worst is over for now. With peace restored and the most orderly and respectful election in months, this reporter can only call it how it is.
No matter whether the Teacher or Owen Merry makes it over the line to take Liberty House - the stated commitments they have made ensure that both candidates have signed on the dotted line for freedom and placing all citizens first.
